HIST-A 200 Black Voices in Early America

What is America and how did it come to be? Who are Americans? What is our “founding” legacy? What is “freedom” in the context of history? We'll explore the writings, images, and oral testimonies by or about people of African descent in Early America up through 1865 to reconstruct Black voices and to understand the wider context of early America. These voices offer critical perspectives on both historical and present-day American origins, identity, and ideals.

  • Summer Session One:
    • MTWR 11am-12:15pm, online.
    • Fulfills GenEd S&H and COLL CASE S&H.
